To commemorate the recent 3DS launch of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, I would love to highlight what is probably my favorite Zelda game, and soundtrack, of all.
When it was first launched nearly two decades ago, Majora’s Mask was seen as something… strange. The previously colorful and joyful Nintendo had created what was an incredibly dark setting and story, putting aside the series’ namesake and having the familiar Link struggle to save Termina (brilliant name, by the way) from Skull Kid and a falling moon.
Yes. A. Falling. Moon.
This is an orchestral version of the Oath of Order, a theme for a song that Link plays during the course of the game. The haunting strings successfully build on the sense of foreboding communicated through the three days that Link has to save the city.
After taking a listen to the soundtrack again, I am even more excited to pick up the 3DS remaster.
